Who and What Are We?

We see ourselves as a dynamic, outward-looking organisation with a positive and creative approach to retirement. Everything is voluntary and self-help; our members share their extensive knowledge and experience and develop their own capabilities by learning.

However, you do not need any qualifications to join us and you will not get any qualifications from us - there are no exams. We are all about the pleasure of learning for its own sake. Our specialist groups and common interest groups offer many ways to stretch your mind and/or body. Not only that, we also organise outings and other recreational activities. Our meetings and activities usually take place in the day-time and are organised mainly in small groups that meet regularly. We have over 400 members who between them organise and support about 50 groups. Any member with enthusiasm and basic organisational skills can start a new group at any time if there is sufficient support amongst their fellow members.

Although we are autonomous, we are affiliated to a nationwide movement whose representative body is the Third Age Trust. We can and do call on their resources – an invaluable asset.

Where Does It All Happen?

Our office is in Broadway House, near the Clock tower in Newbury (see Contact Us). Our Groups meet in a variety of places. Some meet in the office building, some in halls scattered around the town, others in members’ homes.

What Does It Cost?

Our annual Subscription is £20.00 a year (reduced rate applies 1st March to 31st August).  Some groups make a small charge to cover their own expenses and normally a small amount, 20p/30p is paid to cover tea and coffee supplied by host leaders.

Want to Join Us or Do You Have any Queries?

If you would like to join us, or have any questions, please feel free to contact/call the office for further information. We would love to hear from you.
